Olé Mexican Grill Hosting Philippines Fundraiser

Locals may know him for his Olé Mexican Grill, but chef Erwin Ramos is originally from the Philippines, where he grew up in the hospitality industry: his family owns three restaurants and a hotel there. So it hit especially close to home to watch the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan this month, which has killed thousands in that country and left millions homeless. Fortunately Ramos' family made it through without injury, and the chef is doing what he can to help others.

On Monday, November 25, starting at 6:30 PM, he will host a special fundraiser at Olé, serving a family-stile Filipino dinner that includes kinilaw na fish (Filipino ceviche), lechon (roasted pork with papaya) and manok inasal (barbecue chicken with pickled vegetables). There's a suggested donation of $125 to benefit Save the Children's work around typhoon relief, but there's especially good reason to give more if you can: Ramos says an anonymous donor has offered to match contributions over $125 (up to $250 per person).
