School's In: Market Hosts Cocktail ClassesBy Scott Kearnan | September 3, 2013 By Scott Kearnan | September 3, 2013
Farm-to-table, meet farm-to-tipple. Today marks the first day of classes for many Boston schools, but here's an educational opportunity for those well beyond the beer pong era of life: Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Market at the W Hotel hosts the second installment of its "Market to Market Beverage Series," which launched at the end of August, tonight at 7 PM. The restaurants resident Boston cocktail star, Domingo-Martin Barreres, will lead students in creating four different cocktails (a watermelon gimlet, Georgia julep, hand shaken daiquiri and infused-with-freshness "Garden Party," pictured) while chef Brian Anderson will teach them how to create four small plates paired to each cocktail: including watermelon gazpacho, crab spring rolls with tamarind sauce and sweet corn risotto. All the ingredients used for the cocktails and plates are hand-selected earlier in the day from the Tuesday Copley Square Farmer's Market, imparting a few extra lessons about the value of keeping it local. For tickets to tonight's class ($40), head here: or mark your agenda for the next class on September 24, which will focus on punches.
