Boston Weekend Planner: October 25-27
Friday-Sunday: Cheers to the homecoming of Second Glass. The national event production and mobile app developer for young, irreverent oenophiles might be based in LA now, but it was founded (and cut its teeth) in Boston. This weekend it returns for Wine Riot at the Park Plaza Castle, a fiesta filled with 250 international wine varieties for tasting, interactive booths and impromptu mini-classes, photo booths, a high-energy DJ and other fun elements that keep it from being some stiff sniff-and-sip soiree. The $60 tickets are going fast, so head here and grab them now.
Saturday-Sunday: A vegetarian can often wind up the odd person out: at dinner parties, barbecues and catered office lunches where many forget there's a non-meat eater in their midst. (Cue: the haphazardly concocted garden salad.) This weekend, though, over 100 veggie-related exhibitors, speakers and chefs will come together for the Boston Vegetarian Food Festival, with participating restaurants including Veggie Galaxy and Bukhara. The event runs from 11 AM to 6 PM on Saturday and 10 AM to 4 PM on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center (1350 Tremont Street), offering up free samples, artisanal food for sale, chef demos and presenters - like "Will Travel For Vegan Food" blogger Kristin Lajeunesse, who just returned from an epic cross-country trip to eat at every vegan restaurant in the U.S. For more info on the (free!) event, head here.
Sunday: What does your weekend hold? We foresee a trip to L'Espalier for Tarot Tea, the October installment of its Sunday Tea Tasting at 2 PM. Every month, Cynthia Gold, one of the few certified tea sommeliers in the country, poaches, brines and smokes her way to five evocative tea flavors served with sandwiches, pastries and petit fours. But this outing will also include tarot card readings and the chance to win prizes via special fortune cookies. Reserve $50 tickets by calling 617-262-3023.
