If you've longed to experience China's Mid-Autumn Festival but can't stomach airfare to Asia, The Peninsula Hotel has you covered. Scarf down mooncakes - the festival's signature treat - at the following events, in celebration of the fall harvest and autumn moon.
Through Sunday: Shanghai Terrace is serving mooncakes (egg custard-filled pastries) at lunch and dinner. At The Peninsula in Hong Kong, 480,000 mooncakes will be made and consumed during the festival. The Lobby is also serving afternoon tea, aka AfterMoon Tea. Service includes signature mooncakes, as well as moon-inspired petits fours, assorted sandwiches and Chinese tea for $45 a person.
Thursday: Chef Wing Wah Yip - the hotel's Dim Sum Ambassador - will teach a two-hour dim sum class that includes hands-on training and a dim sum tasting. Tickets are $80 and reservations are required (call 312-573-6695 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org).
Friday: Shanghai Terrace will host a $60 Chinese tea appreciation class, focusing on tea etiquette, history and tea types.
