Weekend Planner: Chocolate Festivals and Pastry PreviewsBy Sarah Freeman | May 1, 2014 By Sarah Freeman | May 1, 2014
Take a trip out to Long Grove this weekend for its sinfully delicious Long Grove Chocolate Festival. The three-day affair is filled with gourmet sweets from Long Grove Confectionery and Ma and Pa’s Candy as well as treats such as chocolate-dipped strawberries, donuts, brownies and fudge. Indulge in a chocolate tasting for $5 or just savor live music from 10 AM to 6 PM. General admission tickets are available for $8 online.
Green City Market returns outdoors to Lincoln Park for the first time this spring. Known as the farmer's market to see and be seen, the opening day of the summer market is kinda like the homecoming of the foodie world. Expect a handful of local chefs (if you arrive early enough) as well as a cooking demonstration from GCM founding board member and co-president Sarah Stegner (Prarie Grass Café) and chef Carrie Nahabedian (Naha, Brindille) and 10:30 AM.
Get a sneak peek at James Beard Award winning pastry chef Mindy Segal’s forthcoming Logan Square bakery. Segal will preview a selection of pastries from HotChocolate bakery at a pop-up brunch in Ampersand. Be the first to try pretzel bagels with smoked whitefish, asparagus and buffalo milk ricotta Danish, rhubarb and strawberry pop tarts, lemon brioche with blueberry milk and more. Tickets cost $50 online for the event that begins at noon.
