Firecakes is turning one-year-old and giving away free donuts for an entire year. This sweet prize will only be awarded to winners via a Willy Wonka-style contest. Stop by the River North donut shop and pick up a half-dozen or more donuts for the chance to find the winning ”Golden Donut.” Over the next week, three lucky boxes will contain a ticket at the bottom that is good for one dozen donuts per month for one year (312-329-6501).
Join chef Jose Garces on a culinary trip though Barcelona’s signature market, La Boqueria. To celebrate the opening of Mercat a la Planxa’s new Barcelona Room, Garces will prepare a special dinner with several active culinary stations, such as a montadito station with crab and avocado and Serrano ham and goat cheese as well as a planxa station with diver scallops and chorizo bilboa, along with Spanish wine and cocktails. The evening begins at 7 PM and costs $45 (312-765-0524).
It’s a Crime and Punishment brunch at Fountainhead with chef Cleetus Friedman joining forces with Stone Brewing Company. The four course brunch, with whiskey bacon Benedict and roasted squash-stuffed donut holes, will be paired with rare Stone beers as well as beer cocktails. It begins at noon and tickets cost $50 online.
