Good news: you no longer have to choose between a cup of coffee and a cocktail at brunch. The two have been combined into a boozy and buzzy creation that is part of Trenchermen’s new specialty coffee program. Each month, the restaurant and bar studies a roaster and turns its coffee into a cocktail, as well as serves it with a pastry pairing during weekend brunch.
This is the last weekend to enjoy Counter Culture's Ndarioni coffee from Nyeri, Kenya in either the Counterintuitive cocktail (Counter Culture cold-brew, cassis, Mandarine Napoleon and mezcal) or paired with a sweet corn coffeecake (sorghum tomato jam, goat cheese, roasted corn and oatmeal streusel). The cocktail turns out to be much higher on the caffeine scale than on the liquor one; the 1.5 ounce pour of coffee concentrate has about as much caffeine as an 8 ounce cup.
In October, Metric coffee from the soon-to-open Cafe Transit will be showcased in The Common Cure cocktail (Elixir #1, Hayman's Old Tom Gin, Averell Damson gin and Amaro Montenegro) and with a roasted apple and chicory hand pie, fried to order and served warm. The monthly cocktail is available at the bar seven days a week, while the coffee and pastry pairing is only available during weekend brunch.
