Best Thing We Ate: Whiskey Cake’s Whiskey Cake

It seems that a dessert as elegant and supreme as the Whiskey Cake’s eponymous sweet should have a somewhat more luxurious name than “whiskey cake.” Cake Royale or some such heady name, to give diners a fuller sense of the decadence in which they’re about to partake. The Plano restaurant’s signature meal-ender has all the elements of legend: it’s a super-moist square of toffee pastry, drizzled with bourbon anglaise, dotted with spiced pecans and crowned with fresh whipped cream. The sauce seeps into the cake, making it all the more dense and rich, and the nuts add just the right note of texture, while the whipped cream serves as the frothy exclamation point to the wondrous taste symphony. It is most definitely worth the drive to sit in awe of this cake before diving right in.
