Hidden Gem: Dallas Fish Market

On a recent visit to downtown’s hidden gem, Dallas Fish Market, we were pleased to find not just beautifully prepared seafood plates, but a good variety of fresh sushi and sashimi. Here are five entrees we recommend digging into on your next visit.

  • Sushi

    From maki rolls to sashimi and nigiri, Dallas Fish Market puts its flown-in-daily seafood to impeccable use. We loved the flavors brought together in the Alaskan roll (crab, spicy salmon, avocado, red tobiko, wasabi aioli) and the Temptation (shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, crab meat, eel sauce, spicy mayo). The Hawaiian escolar nigiri was mild but bright on the palate.

  • Ahi Tuna Tartare

    A dusting of fried shallots sets this fish and avocado stack apart from similar dishes elsewhere. The tuna was incredibly fresh on its own, but we couldn’t help but drizzle the irresistible wasabi-soy dressing over the dish.

  • Pan-Roasted Striped Bass

    Mussels, shrimp and saffron-touched onions and fennel underpin this crisp-skinned filet also served with batter-fried shallots. 

  • Marinated Line-Caught Swordfish

    This gently flavored fish gets a formidable boost from a ginger-miso-soy marinade. The cashew-flecked basmati rice it was served with made for a doubly nutty accompaniment.

  • Lavender Crème Brulée

    This lightly flowery burnt-top custard blows away nearly every previous interpretation of the classic dish we’ve tried. A mix of berries brings the zing.
