Dorchester Social Eatery Opens Saturday in LoDo

Chalk one up for the beautiful people. When the much-awaited Dorchester Social Eatery opens its doors on Saturday, LoDo’s see-and-be-seen crowd will have a setting worthy of their lingering and mingling, from the high-ceilinged, library-themed bar to the cabana-lined rooftop lounge. (The dramatic blue-and-gold dining room will officially be unveiled in a few weeks.)

They’ll also get their fill of small plates from a menu that succinctly spans the globe. In addition to the dishes we previewed back in May, chef Michel Wahaltere is turning out Maryland blue-crab fritters with tarragon aioli and curry ketchup, chicken tagine with lemon and green olives, moules à la biere from his native Belgium and much more. For lunch, there’s everything from pan bagnat and shrimp banh mi to fattoush and caponata, while the brunch menu yields chakchouka with merguez and custard-stuffed crepes in citrus-lavender syrup. And the happy-hour snacks we sampled at a pre-opening party included elegant mini-flatbreads topped with pesto, wild mushroom ragù and goat cheese as well as addictive alitas de pollo, or chicken wings marinated in aji amarillo and garlic, then served over peanut butter sauce with cilantro aioli.

Of course, the bars both upstairs and down feature craft cocktails aplenty. Don’t miss the zesty gin-based Dorchester Snapper in particular (below), combining pineapple and lime juices with green Tabasco, mint and cilantro.
