Treat yourself to a serene afternoon of scrumptious tea and crumpets (or at least, tasty snacks). Here are five places with afternoon tea service.
Things get started with a pop. Of bubbly, that is. Enjoy a glass of champagne (or refreshing mint lime-lemonade), and then switch gears to a cup of chai tea and a wild mushroom-and-feta samosa. Next up is a list of elegant ladyfinger sandwiches, a cup of English cucumber soup and a spiced poached pear. Save room for cranberry and apricot scones, pastries and desserts served with earl grey (Saturdays at 2 PM; $35 per guest).
At Ristorante Cavour you can choose from the traditional tea package (think egg salad and cucumber-and-cream cheese sandwiches) or the Granduca package with a seafood sammie upgrade (lobster salad, cured tuna) and a bottle of Prosecco. The tea list boasts a dozen options. Reservations required (daily, 2-5 PM; $41-$51 per person).
St. Regis Houston
A selection of petits fours, tea sandwiches and scones accompanies your loose-leaf tea. Go big and add champagne and English trifle to your order. Reservations recommended (Wednesday-Sunday, 3-5 PM; $40-$55 per person).
Queen Vic Pub & Kitchen
A pot of organic loose-leaf tea is served with the chef's choice of tea sandwiches, croquettes, scones and more (Tuesday-Friday, 3-5 PM; $12 per person).
Your Cup of Tea Collectibles
Plain or aromatic tea, in darling individual teapots, comes with strawberries and cream, assorted finger sandwiches, homemade chocolate chip cookies and fruit scones (weekdays, 11 AM-2 PM; $16.75 per person).
Four Seasons Houston
High tea in one of Quattro’s four private dining rooms is available for parties of 10 to 30 guests. Sandwiches include smoked Atlantic salmon on rye and chicken salad on mini croissant. You also get a cherry scone and four-piece pastry selection, plus whipped mascarpone and hand-crafted preserves. Prosecco can be added for an additional cost. Reservations required (Saturday & Sunday, 2-4 PM; $36-$42 per person).
