The people have spoken — and now we officially know the best burgers in Houston. But what about the runner-ups? From cult favorites to cheap eats, here are five burgers that just missed the mark.
1. The Original Fudds at Fuddruckers
We're not surprised to see the chain restaurant on the list. It’s tough to go wrong when your patty is made to order and you build your own burger to perfection ($5.99). And voters agreed, saying, “I've been going to Fuddruckers for years, and they’re very consistent. For a larger chain, it blows away the others.”
2. Pappas Burger at Pappas Burger
"Great taste. Right size." The traditional half-pound prime beef burger ($12.95) holds its own in a sea of tough competitors. You'll feel at home at either of two locations. As one voter put it, it's "a classic place to come and have a good quality burger."
3. Lone Star Burger at Down House
It's made with Cabot cheddar, heirloom tomato, butter lettuce, house mustard and aïoli on a Slow Dough challah bun ($12). Voters gave high praise to the burger from the Heights neighborhood coffeehouse and bar, calling it "just a knockout."
4. Cheeseburger at Tornado Burger
Heating up the competition, the classic burger at the Stafford-area joint is made even better with a spicy kick of garlic, onion and jalapeño on request ($2.75 single patty; $4.75 double patty). "The spicy burger is the best in Houston."
5. New Bistro Burger at Hubbell & Hudson
The Woodlands bistro serves up a mean burger. According to one voter, "It’s the best I have ever eaten." It’s easy to see why, thanks to tasty toppings including oven-dried tomatoes, lettuce, Vermont cheddar and smoked bacon ($17).
