Open six months or less, the newest round of hot bars in town includes an Irish pub, tiki bar and East Downtown watering hole with free arcade games. All are worth a visit and a drink (or two).

  • Lei Low

Why It's Hot: The tiki decor and tropical drinks (there's even a flaming one) will put you in an island state of mind.
    Must-Drink: Chihuahua Fizz
Insider Tip: Don't drive past the bar: it's tucked away in a small strip center near North Main and East 25th in the Heights. Parking is scarce; take a cab.

  • Marfreless

Why It's Hot: The River Oaks landmark, marked only by a blue door, has new ownership. While it's been slightly revamped, the dim lighting and make-out atmosphere are still intact.
    Must-Drink: A classic gin martini
Insider Tip: Wednesday nights, it's half-off wine and champagne.

  • Barringer

Why It's Hot: Expect live music, aerialists and craft and classic cocktails at Downtown's upscale speakeasy.
    Must-Drink: Old fashioned
Insider Tip: Don't drink on an empty stomach: look for the Bourbon & Bacon pop-up with bites on-site.

    Sage County

Why It's Hot: The edgy, high-energy lounge in Midtown offers local and classic liquor, beer and DJ-driven music.
    Must-Drink: An infused moonshine shooter
Insider Tip: The bar is hidden between Red Door and The Dogwood.

  • Pimlico Irish Pub

Why It's Hot: A little piece of Dublin in Montrose, the pub has a full bar heavy on Irish beers, whiskey and scotch, and an Irish staff from the owner to the bartenders. You'll also find two patios, dartboards and a jukebox with a large selection of tunes.
    Must-Drink: Guinness on tap
Insider Tip: The patio is pet-friendly with water and treats for Fido.

    Neil's Bahr

Why It's Hot: You can get a drink at the so-nerdy-it’s-cool bar in East Downtown, and also read comic books, watch sci-fi flicks and play free arcade games.
Must-Drink: Palpatini cocktail (vodka, blue curaçao, crème de cassis, lime juice and soda)
Insider Tip: Don't expect any flavored liquors or muddled drinks here. The bar has a no-trendy-drinks policy.

  • Sassafras

Why It's Hot: The Oak Forest neighborhood bar is from the bartenders at Big Star and Grand Prize.
    Must-Drink: Sangria
Insider Tip: Wine and beer abound, and the bar now has a liquor license as well.

  • Gaslamp Terrace

Why It's Hot: Lively and contemporary, the bar sees a bustling crowd of well-dressed Midtowners. Enjoy a bird's-eye view of the Downtown skyline from the rooftop.
    Must-Drink: International craft beer
Insider Tip: Nosh on complimentary cotton candy and popcorn while you play magnet pong and ring toss.
