5 Twists on the Classic Burger

By Malika Dalamal  |  October 21, 2013

Not so long ago, it was hard to find a decent burger in London. These days, between Meat Liquor, Shake Shack, Five Guys, Patty & Bun and countless others, we are spoilt for choice. In fact, we are so spoilt that now we want something different. Check out five variations on the classic hamburger, below. Now, how about sassing up those classic fries?

  • The Bratwurst Burger at Shake Shack

Move over, Oktoberfest. It's Shacktoberfest over at Shake Shack in Covent Garden, which means that for the rest of the month you can indulge in several Bavarian-inspired specials. Top of the list is the Cheese Brat Burger, a 100% all-natural Angus beef burger topped with a flat-top griddled Emmentaler cheese-stuffed bratwurst and crispy ShackMeister Ale-marinated shallots and ShackSauce.

  • The Square Burger at Chop Shop

Arriving in London from Michael White's Al Fiori in New York, the White Label Burger at the Chop Shop in Haymarket is a square patty made from a mix of brisket, chuck and aged fat served on a toasted white bread bap with white American cheese.

  • The Dessurger at BRGR.CO

If one burger isn't enough, follow with a second one for dessert. Enter Soho's BGRG.CO Dessurger, a sweet treat made from a Cronut (sugar-coated croissant/donut hybrid) bun topped with vanilla parfait, a pistachio praline patty, blackberry jam, Chantilly cream and lemon posset custard instead of ketchup and mustard.

  • The Dipping Burger at Dip & Flip

As you would expect, everything at Dip & Flip in Battersea begs to be dipped in gravy. As well as several meaty sandwiches, there is a Dip & Flip burger - a cheeseburger with dipped roast beef, onion rings and, of course, extra gravy on the side for dipping.

  • The Sushi Burger at Yo! Sushi

Best known for conveyor-belt sushi and other Japanese fare, Yo! Sushi surprises with its range of unusual Yo! Burgers. The bun - made from toasted Japanese rice - is available with five fillings including teriyaki chicken, kimchi, salmon and tilapia katsu. In place of fries, opt for a side of nori crackers. Dipping in "misochup" - a kind of miso ketchup - is up to you.
