5 Crazy New Bites at The OC Fair

By Lesley Balla  |  July 2, 2013

Because it just isn't summer until you stuff yourself with deep-fried things that probably shouldn't be deep-fried, there are a slew of new items at The OC Fair this year. There's also a big culinary focus, if you can call it that, with cooking demos and competitions, food trucks on Thursdays, and on Fridays, you can taste your way around the fair for only $2 a pop from noon-4 PM. What's on the menu?

Bacon is obviously not over in the fair circuit, with the porky goodness showing up in a lot of random places, like fried bacon ice cream, a Nutella and bacon-topped sourdough pizza, and a Pink's hot dog topped with cream cheese, bacon and Ghirardelli dark chocolate. Take a look below for a sneak peek at five more crazy things making their debut this year. The OC Fair goes from July 12 through August 11

  • Chicken Charlie's, known for deep-frying just about anything, has created the Krispy Kreme Sloppy Joe, which is exactly what it sounds like.

  • From Bacon A-Fair, new this year are Bacon Bombs, jack cheese stuffed in a biscuit wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Of course.

  • Chicken Charlie's also created a waffle-wrapped, deep-fried hot dog. Ketchup or syrup?

  • Because there always has to be something sweet, deep-fried cookie dough will be making the fair circuit this year.

  • And for the health-conscious, Biggie's Meat Market has a Big Chic, a grilled chicken breast on a stick. It's a 24-ounce chicken breast, but still. At least it isn't deep fried.
