Cafe Röckenwagner Slinging Sweets, More in BrentwoodBy Lesley Balla | January 28, 2014 By Lesley Balla | January 28, 2014
Hans Röckenwagner is seemingly unstoppable. You'll find his pretzel rolls, breads and pastries at various farmers market stands around town, plus more at two Röckenwagner Bakery locations and 3 Square Cafe in Venice. Now he's rolled out another new cafe on the ground floor of a mixed-use complex in Brentwood, Cafe Röckenwagner, which officially opens for dinner tonight. Designed by Montalba Architects, the space is sleek and clean, with a large counter and the signature orange chairs, a big patio and cases filled with delicious breakfast pastries, breads and desserts from former elBulli pastry chef, César Bermúdez Cifuentes. The rest of the menu is global in scope and filled with seasonal California ingredients - steamed mussels with chorizo, pan-roasted red snapper with nasturtium broth, Jidori chicken with pomme puree, pretzel burgers and more. While there isn't a full liquor license, there is beer and wine, plus cocktails made with amari, fortified wines and shochu. The cafe will open daily from 7 AM-10 PM.
