City Tavern Debuts at Figat7th in Downtown LABy Lesley Balla | February 4, 2014 By Lesley Balla | February 4, 2014
City Tavern and its sibling Rush Street are fixtures in Downtown Culver City, and today a second City Tavern opens in Downtown LA. The restaurant is a new anchor at Figat7th, the retail complex that also houses a slew of fast-casual concepts like the new Loteria Grill and Torta Co., Sprinkles, Mendocino Farms, Juicy Lucy and many more. This City Tavern is bigger than the original, with a new cocktail lounge and outdoor patio, plus an extended menu and cocktail offerings. In addition to its pubby classics, like fried chicken nuggets, burgers, and sweet potato fritters, chef de cuisine Randy Montoya has added new seafood dishes, including fresh oysters, crudo (pictured) and house-smoked salmon belly. Since this is a more nightlife-y option than the other new restaurants at the complex, the bar wants to blow things out with 28 craft beers on tap, California wines, and creative and classic cocktails. City Tavern opens for dinner at 5 PM nightly, with happy hour, lunch and late-night hours to start soon, which isn't a bad idea for its close proximity to L.A. Live, Staples and Nokia Theater.
