Ice Cream Pop-Ups in Santa Monica This SummerBy Lesley Balla | June 12, 2014 By Lesley Balla | June 12, 2014
As if the myriad new ice cream shops and trucks aren't enough ways to cool down this summer, two Santa Monica hotels have forged partnerships with ice creameries so guests and the general public can enjoy a scoop or two poolside or curbside.
Beginning this weekend, you'll find special ice cream carts at the Shore Hotel, the chic eco-friendly hotel on Ocean Avenue. Sprinkles arrives first (June 14-15 from 11 AM-3 PM) with slow-churned flavors like red velvet, strawberry, triple chocolate and Cap'n Crunch. For the rest of the summer, look for Popshop serving ice pops (July 4-5); Coolhaus (July 26); Peddler's Creamery (August 9-10 and 23-24); and the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck (Aug. 31-Sept. 1). The Shore's community benches make a nice spot for a scoop before or after the beach.
On July 1, Adam Fleischman's L.A. Creamery will begin serving two new exclusive flavors at the Viceroy: a Manhattan-inspired flavor made with brown butter toffee and Bulleit Rye, topped with maraschino cherries and an absinthe ice cream. The popular honeycomb, salted caramel and hazelnut chocolate truffle flavors will also be available. Order them up in five-ounce containers at Cast, the Cameo Bar or in the poolside cabanas.
