Irv's Burgers Relocates, Reopens in WeHo
Great news for the new year, burger fans. Irv’s Burgers, which had to close at the end of October due to landlord disputes and new developments, reopened last week less than a mile away from its original burger stand. There was a lot of hubbub around the shutter of Irv's, mostly for its history - the stand has been there since around 1950, many rock stars and celebrities have had a cheeseburger there (it was also on the cover of Linda Ronstadt's Living in the USA album), and neighborhood locals and burger aficionados adored the handwritten messages from owner Sonia Hong, who owned the joint with her family since 2000.
From the looks of the photos, the new Irv's is a lot cleaner, with all the seating now inside - we loved the stools along the outdoor counter of the original - but the signage and name are intact. That's good branding news for the Hongs. And word is that Sonia is still scribbling niceties on each paper plate, which is good news for those of us who like our cheeseburgers with a hand-drawn picture "just for" us (7998 Santa Monica Blvd.).
