Two big events this weekend bring big name chefs to the area. In LA, it's the new All-Star Chef Classic and its kitchen stadium at L.A. Live. Out of the four events, you'll meet and eat with local and visiting chefs, including Ludovic Lefebvre, Nancy Silverton, Dominique Crenn, Gavin Kaysen, Paul Qui, Ricardo Zarate, Alain Passard and more. Go here for details and ticket info. Or head out of town for the Food + Wine Festival Palm Desert, which features lunches, dinners and events with David LeFevre, Matthew Accarino, Brooke Williamson, Roy Choi and more.

We have great West Coast crab, but for a real treat head to Cut in Beverly Hills for Florida stone crab claws. On Wednesday through Saturday - from now through the end of March - get three claws with citrus and fennel slaw for $38, or individual claws for $12 a piece at the adjacent Sidebar lounge (9500 Wilshire Blvd.; 310-275-5200).
Sunday, March 23
Check out Derek Hughes' show Insomnia at Casa del Mar and grab dinner at Catch, which features a special three-course menu in honor of the show on Sunday evenings. Chef Sven Mede's menu includes dishes like fluke crudo with pickled chanterelles, big eye tuna with shaved fennel and pine nuts, and a chocolate and espresso tart for dessert. Dinner is $39 per person; tickets for Insomnia are separate (1910 Ocean Way).
