Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak Now Grilling in GlendaleBy Lesley Balla | March 26, 2014 By Lesley Balla | March 26, 2014
It's a steakhouse kind of week around LA. Renowned San Francisco chef and empire builder Michael Mina makes his second foray onto the LA scene with a much more tried-and-true concept than XIV, the former SBE-owned restaurant he was involved with a few yeas ago. Bourbon Steak, which the Mina Group already has in four other cities, debuts today at the Americana at Brand in Glendale. It's fitting for The Grove sibling, which has been going through some changes over the last year or so (for one, Din Tai Fung opened late last year). Anchoring the corner of Brand Boulevard and Colorado Avenue, the space is open and airy, filled with big leather booths, a long bar, and indoor-outdoor patio. In addition to Mina-typical fare like lobster pot pie, organic grass-fed steaks and seasonal side dishes, there's tableside tartare and dessert carts, fresh seafood and a caviar menu. Plus, a cafe and patisserie serving lighter fare during the day, and bartenders slinging spirit-heavy classic cocktails (bourbon is in the name, after all) well into the night - hopefully long enough to grab a drink after a movie at the mall. The restaurant opens for lunch daily at 11:30 AM, and for dinner at 5:30 PM; the bar and lounge stays open all day.
