What do whole pig's heads, comedy and "dirty American" cocktails have in common? You'll find all three at Roadhouse LA, the new global barbecue collaboration from chef Robbie Richter and Umami Group's Adam Fleischman, now open at the Hollywood Improv on Melrose Avenue. New Mexican-themed beach shack gastropub, Dia de Campo, has shot up in the South Bay from the group behind Abigaile in Hermosa Beach, Wildcraft in Culver City and Little Sister on Manhattan Beach. The menu is inspired by East LA cocinas and beachside shacks along the coasts of California, Mexican and Hawaii, with dishes like spiced short rib empanadas, lobster tostadas and wood-grilled whole fish with pipian verde. Culver City's City Tavern takes its meatballs, bacon-topped deviled eggs and hearty comfort food to Downtown LA, now open at Figat7th. Craft brews, mostly local, flow from the 28 taps. Happy hour starts next week and a late-night menu features martini flights. That's right, three little martinis in a row.
