Now Open: Water Grill Debuts in Santa MonicaBy Lesley Balla | July 22, 2013 By Lesley Balla | July 22, 2013
There were friends and family dinners at the new Water Grill over the weekend but the King Seafood Company wanted to get all of their ducks in a row before actually opening to the public, which they very quietly did last night. So, now you can get all the same seafood dishes - fish and chips, chowder, lobster rolls, steamed mussels, whole fish prepared in a variety of ways, oysters and plenty of other chilled seafood specialties - at the new WG, which took over the former Ocean Avenue Seafood space. From a few sneak peeks, the place has an even more shanty-like vibe with reclaimed wood and things like an antique pulley system, with white subway tiles and a copper-topped oyster bar. The view here is nothing like Downtown's - you can actually see the ocean from the wall of windows and expanded patio.
When the venerable Water Grill transformed to its current, more casual incarnation in Downtown LA, we thought it looked like it could be dropped in any city in any part of the country. We can say just about the same for this new location, but it does seem to have more of an oceanside connection. Still, this may be the first of many to come. Water Grill SM opens Sunday through Wednesday, 11 AM-10 PM, and till 11 PM on Thursday through Saturday.
