Rocks, Salt: 7 Specials for National Tequila Day Today

By Lesley Balla  |  July 22, 2013

The unofficial day of beer and tequila (Cinco de Mayo) is long gone, but today, July 24, is "officially" National Tequila Day. That's a good enough reason to find a margarita or some other agave spirit-based drink. If you want something fancy, there's That Girl is Dangerous, a Beau du Bois concoction of reposado tequila, Aperol, lemon and vanilla orgeat at The Corner Door, and the Man in the Yellow Hat, a sour with Del Maguey Vida mezcal, banana, lemon, coconut and cardamon at MB Post. For you budget-minded tequila tipplers, here are seven specials to quench your thirst.

Bar Ama
Get $7 house margaritas, and 8-9-10 dollar shots of tequila and sangrita all day at Josef Centeno's Downtown house of queso. Or just knock back a couple of Nacho Vidals, one of the most refreshing tequila cocktails we've tasted.

There's an entire menu experience based on tequila at John Sedlar's restaurant, but today only you'll get the Deconstructed Ocho Tequila for $8, something usually only available on the Hallucination menu, at the bar.

Petty Cash Taqueria
If you haven't been into Watler Manzke's taste of Mexico yet, today is a good day to head in for a drink - the Petty Cash margarita is $8 all day. Cheesy churros, uni guacamole and aguachiles are just the icing.

Frida Beverly Hills
The original Frida has $7 classic, mango, strawberry and cadillac margaritas from 3-6 PM and again from 9-11 PM today.

Casa Vega
Head to the Valley for old-school Mexican fare and $5 Mexican Mules (tequila, ginger beer, agave, lime) all day.

It's not just beer at Westchester's new Oaxacan-inspired watering hole. You can get tequila gimlets for $6 all night long, which should go nicely with the tacos borrachos special.

The beach was made for margaritas, and Gladstones is happy to be there for you. Today get two-for-one hand-muddled original, mango or blackberry margaritas all day today.
