Weekend Feasting: Artisanal LA Returns, Hungry Cat SM Celebrates
What's on the agenda this weekend? There's plenty to do, plus these fun events.
Artisanal LA: The spring food, artisan and craft event is back, transforming The Reef in downtown LA into a DIY wonderland of small-batch, handmade food, drink and wares, plus workshops and demos. Some of the highlights include 60 new vendors; a DIY bitters station; talks on how to keep backyard chickens; in-house cafes; plus samples of everything from Mallow Mallow s'mores to Banzai jerky, frozen treats, chocolates, Indie Jams and more. Channel Island Shellfish Boil at Hungry Cat: In celebration of the Santa Monica Hungry Cat's fourth anniversary, new menu and very cool Eric Junker mural on the building, David Lentz and chef de cuisine Kris Longley are serving up a seafood feast sourced almost exclusively from the Channel Islands on Sunday, April 26. The $55 prix fixe meal comes with a grilled asparagus and burrata salad; a shellfish boil with local rock crab, swordfish, ridgeback shrimp, clams, mussels, squid, and pork and shrimp sausage; wood-grilled artichokes and corn; and cornmeal strawberry-rhubarb shortcake. There will be oysters on the half shell and special drinks offered a la carte. 3-8 PM.
Free Pizza at Sotto: The LA Pizza Society is hosting an AYCE pizza party at Sotto near Century City on Saturday, April 25. $25 gets you unlimited pizza and one drink (beer or soda), as well as a pizza-making tutorial from chef and owner, Steve Samson. There are still tickets left, but we suggest acting fast. 1-3 PM.
Rosé Party at DomaineLA: It's the annual pink wine extravaganza at the Hollywood wine shop on Sunday with bonus food from Knuckle & Claw. There will be seven rose wines to sample, plus rolls, chips and popsicles, for $25 per person. Also, you can pick up a bottle of Jenny Lewis' new wine, The Voyager 2, a collaboration with La Clarine Farm and DomaineLA's Jill Bernheimer. The first release sold out incredibly fast, so this one will too. The tasting goes from 2-5 PM.
