Weekend Feasting: Metal Burgers and Shaved Ice in Alhambra
Resolutions or not, you still have to eat and drink this weekend. In addition to these ideas, here are a few more delicious things to do.
The Cheeses of Europe: Love fromage? There's a free cheese tasting hosted by the Cheeses of Europe at Santa Monica Place on Friday, January 16. The pop-up event is free and open to the public. Cheese companies from France will be offering samples of more than 15 different types of cheeses plus accouterments. And since cheese is sexy (it is!), there's a photo exhibit showcasing Les Filles a Fromages. Check it all out at the Central Plaza from 11 AM-7 PM.
Grill 'Em All Anniversary: The hard-rocking burger lords Grill 'Em All celebrate their second year of brick-and-mortardom in Alhambra on Saturday, January 17. In addition to all-day happy hour pricing on all canned beer, there will be an epic Eagle Rock Brewery tap takeover, plus the return of H-1000s, or the shop's deep-fried white truffle mac 'n' cheese bites. Starting at 6 PM, there will be free "metal" face painting and birthday cake (free with purchase) while supplies last. If that's not enough, it's the last day to try The Pungent Stench AKA Vampiro Burg, an all-beef patty topped with garlic spinach and artichoke dip, garlic bacon, cheddar cheese and frizzled garlic chips on garlic buttered buns.
Get Shaved Ice: While you're in Alhambra, check out the new shaved ice dessert shop Ice Que from Quenelle chef John Park. The Providence and Lukshon vet has been churning out fantastic artisanal ice creams and other frozen treats in Burbank since 2013, and his new San Gabriel Valley spot he features various shaved ice flavors along with toppings and sauces all made in-house. You can build your own or get Park's recommended combos like the Milk & Honey bowl, made with vanilla ice, coffee caramel, egg pudding, honey jelly, rice cakes and coconut flakes; the Black & White bowl with black sesame snow, condensed milk, coconut tapioca, rice cakes and black sesame flakes; or the Blueberry Pie bowl, made with vanilla ice, blueberry pie filling, graham cracker streusel, condensed milk and vanilla ice cream.
