8 Reasons to Drive to Fort Lauderdale

When it comes to killer cuisine and prime entertainment, we have plenty to choose from in our own backyard. However, every now and then, it's nice to check out what the folks up north are raving about, including that hate-to-admit-it's-kinda-fun tourist trap Las Olas Boulevard. From seafood restaurants on the water to craft beers served in a gastropub, these eight stops will surely make your hike up to Fort Lauderdale well worth the trip.

  • Tsukuro

This brand-new beachside restaurant (with a name that translates to “where the moon arrives over the water”) offers a mix of Asian fusion, gourmet Chinese (think: slow-braised oxtail spring rolls) and fresh sushi all rolled into one.

    225 S. Florida Beach Blvd.; 954-523-1407

  • Coconuts

A staple on the Fort Lauderdale scene, this seafood spot offers impressive water views alongside hearty comfort food like the signature coconut shrimp platter packed with french fries and a side of coleslaw.

    429 Seabreeze Blvd.; 954-525-2421

  • American Social

If you're looking for bustling atmosphere, this trendy gastropub with “pour-it-yourself” beers on tap is the place to be, especially when trying its new souped-up pub grub menu, featuring the likes of a surf 'n' turf burger topped with a whole Maine lobster tail on a sesame seed bun.

    721 E. Las Olas Blvd.; 954-764-7005

  • Dos Caminos

With more than 100 different tequilas and heaps of freshly made guacamole, this massive Mexican restaurant inside the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel offers a sexy ambiance with equally spicy cuisine.

    1140 Seabreeze Blvd.; 954-727-7090

  • Via Luna

When dining at The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale's beachy Italian venue (don't miss the buttery Maine lobster salad sandwich), be sure to nab a seat outdoors on the oceanside terrace with beach breeze and boardwalk views.

    1 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.; 954-302-6460

  • YOLO (You Only Live Once)

This cool resto-lounge is a signature hot spot for the Las Olas folks, with its vibrant mingling scene and contemporary American dishes including sautéed jumbo lump crab cakes and barbecue basted pork chops.

    333 E. Las Olas Blvd.; 954-523-1000

  • Steak 954

The W Hotel's signature steakhouse from Stephen Starr will surely feed sophisticated appetites with its gorgeous ocean views, sleek design (including a jellyfish tank) and prime cuts of beef like 16-oz. Wagyu rib-eye.

    401 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.; 954-414-8333

  • Atlantic Surf Club

With its hang-ten surf theme, spacious opened layout and insane ocean views in just about every seat, this casual eatery might have sold you right there, but let's not forget about the monstrous menu with more than 10 different burgers, ample fresh-caught fish choices and signature spiked milkshakes.
