Cocktails for a Cause and Free Top-Shelf GinBy Billy Lyons | December 6, 2013 By Billy Lyons | December 6, 2013
We always enjoy drinking for a cause, especially when it involves serious cocktails. On December 15 beginning at 4 PM, twenty of New York's top female drink-slingers will descend upon The Music Hall of Williamsburg to help raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Participants will compete in a speed-bartending competition where they'll be judged on criteria such as prep time and authenticity of classic cocktails. This year's competition includes entrants from cocktail havens Death + Company, Ward III and Raines Law Room. Judging the competition are Julie Reiner of Flatiron Lounge, cocktail historian Dave Wondrich, and Jim Meehan of PDT among others. Tickets are $25 in advance (includes beverages and finger food) and can be purchased here (66 N. 6 St., Brooklyn).
However, if your favorite charitable cause happens to be your own, Hendrick's is hosting a "Voyage Into The Unusual" party on December 10 and 11 where you can score free drinks. Starting at 8 PM, guests are treated to complimentary cocktails, mixology demonstrations, and live music courtesy of the White Ghost Shivers. The gatherings are known for their interactive elements and kooky cast of characters. Those interested must complete the following RSVP form (One Hanson Pl., Brooklyn).
