Bodega Pop Up Project Takes Over LES StorefrontBy Billy Lyons | December 19, 2013 By Billy Lyons | December 19, 2013
While we can find almost anything at our corner bodega, watching Michelin star chefs from restaurants like wd~50 and Eleven Madison Park go to work is something we don't expect. On December 18, a collection of chefs from the Bronx known as Ghetto Gastro opened a pop up deli and art project, Featherbed Lane, and are giving away homemade sandwiches for free. Specialties you'll find being cooked up include a version of the Philly cheesesteak known as chopped cheese, and the chefs are baking fresh bread daily for sandwiches. The whole space is mocked to look like a classic bodega, with cases of soda, racks of candy and freezers full of frozen treats. The pop up will also feature a series of late night parties with a selection of DJ's spinning tunes, and those interested in attending for free can sign up for the group's mailing list to receive more information here. Names will be drawn at random to attend select private events. However, Featherbed Lane is open to everyone to swing by for free grub on Thursday December 19 from 1:30 PM to 3 PM and Friday December 20 from 12 PM to 3 PM. The group hopes to bring back the concept in a permanent storefront sometime in 2014. See below for more pictures of the transformed storefront.
