First Look: Butter Midtown Shows Some Skin at NYCWFFBy James Mulcahy | October 19, 2013 By James Mulcahy | October 19, 2013
Alex Guarnaschelli and crew hosted a jazz brunch today at Butter, but not the one you think. The chef, who recently won her season of Next Iron Chef All-Stars, held court in Midtown at the restaurant's upcoming second location in the Cassa Hotel (though it shares an address, it's not affiliated with the property). "Were not open yet, so this is the first food we're serving here, which is so exciting," Guarnaschelli said to the crowd - who apparently was very interested in sampling her new dishes. "I'm a little disappointed that I only had to fill the buffet 18 times."
The subterranean space contains touches that will be familiar to fans of the Downtown version - look for mahogany banquettes and skinny, sky-high trees on the wallpaper. There's no club in the basement, but there is an outdoor seating area on street level. Of course you'll find a few tweaks, but the 45th Street version, like the Downtown edition, is decidedly swank.
The chef was in good spirits, not only because of the pending opening (she was mum on the actual date), but because of her recent promotion into food TV glory: "On my tombstone it will be mom, daughter, Iron Chef." Before she finished up her speech and headed on to more NYCWFF events for the weekend - and what's surely a huge workload in the run-up to opening - she made sure to give some love to her fans, and sum up the mission of the fest: "Thanks for coming out and stuffing your faces to fight hunger."
