Though Mission Chinese Food is temporarily closed, Jonathan Wu's modern Chinese-American restaurant Fung Tu is officially open on Orchard Street and may satisfy your separation anxiety (though you'll have to look elsewhere for a free keg while you wait). The Per Se alum, who had been running a series of pop-ups previously, teamed with Wilson Tang of Nom Wah Tea Parlor among others to create a menu featuring smoked and fried dates, Chinese sashimi, and Parker House steamed buns stuffed with sunchokes and shiitake mushrooms. Partner and sommelier Jason Wagner, who left Chicago for the endeavor, oversees the wine list and cocktail program. Another element that attempts to set the restaurant apart? Wu's wife Jane D'Arensbourg helped design the jewel box-like interiors. The restaurant is currently accepting reservations beginning at 6 PM Tuesday through Sunday and will be closed on Mondays.
