Hell's Kitchen Wine Bar Kaskaval Plans MoveBy James Mulcahy

Hell's Kitchen's Kashkaval has been a neighborhood favorite since they started pouring wine and dishing out plates of hummus 10 years ago, so it came as a shock that the bar and market's landlord refused to renew the spot's lease with no reason given. The venue was supposed to close yesterday, but despite not being able to re-sign the lease, the owners of the eatery were granted a stay of execution. After meeting with the landlord (and getting over 3,000 people to sign a petition in favor of lease renewal), the operators were given an extra six months to pack up shop. A call to the restaurant confirms that the plan is to move elsewhere in the hood, which has been overrun with wine bars since the vino started flowing at this joint.
Neighborhood residents have already filled the stools at Kashkaval Garden, a spinoff of the wine bar located just down the block, so the glasses will surely be kept full there during the interim.
