Holiday Mash-Up Alert: Turkey Donuts Are Now a Thing

By James Mulcahy  |  November 7, 2013

Thanksgivukkah approaches. In case you haven't heard, that's the convergence of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah that falls on November 28th this year. Food purveyors are taking note and doing what they do best: creating mash-ups that seem bonkers but may actually end up tasting pretty good.

Witness the turkey-stuffed donuts now being offered by Zucker Bakery in the East Village. Yep, you heard us correctly. These limited edition sweet take a traditional Hanukkah treat - sizzling donuts signify the oil that's key to the holiday story - and fill it with the flavors of Thanksgiving (gobble, gobble). Two varieties will be available - spiced pumpkin donuts with either turkey and cranberry, or turkey and gravy. If the turkey sounds a little much for you, there's also a spiced pumpkin with cranberry sauce, and a sweet potato with toasted marshmallow. They'll be available through the end of the year - but when we say limited time, we mean it - this is the first time the two holidays have converged in over 100 years, so we suggest putting your order in before they run out.
