Pizza Joint Isola on Columbus Opens TodayBy Anne Roderique Jones | October 3, 2013 By Anne Roderique Jones | October 3, 2013
Pizza week may be over, but the foodstuff lives on! Sicilian-born Sebastiano Cappitta (Bettolona, Buca, Coccola) is resurrecting his now-shuttered Isola at a new location today, reborn as Isola on Columbus. The UWS restaurant guru’s sixth, and newest venture will be outfitted with the signature wood-burning oven, his favorite feature for churning out crispy thin-crust pizzas. There’s also a host of housemade pastas, like gnocchi alla sorrentina - a noodlly version of the margarita, and the spaghetti allo scoglio, with calamari, shrimp, mussels and clams - both finished off under those word-burning flames. Meaty classics like a veal cutlet and NY strip steak round out the main courses, along with an Italian-heavy wine list.
The 50-seat dining room is cozy, but you’ll want to take advantage of the outdoor seating while you can. 994 Columbus Ave.; 212-665-2970
