Town Fryers: Latke Festival Returns on December 2
Fans of fried potato pancakes unite! Metropolitan Pavilion will play host to the 5th Annual Latke Festival on Monday, December 2, with entrants including Commerce, The Butterfly and Kutsher's Tribeca vying for the nod from both judges and attendees. Event-goers will have the chance to vote on the People's Choice Award, while judges (including New York City Wine & Food Festival founder Lee Schrager and Food 52's Amanda Hesser) will determine their own champion.
Previous winning renditions have included a deviled egg combo with red onion, parsley and black olive relish from Brent Sims of Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, and a yucca and sweet potato latke with apple plantain sorbet, queso fresco, pickled onion, cilantro and spicy green hot sauce by Micah Fredman from Gramercy Tavern. One confirmed entrant this year: Michael Ferraro of Delicatessen is serving a sweet potato latke slider with ground brisket, roasted apple, black pepper crème fraîche and cranberry chutney - perhaps a nod to Hanukkah's overlap with Thanksgiving next week. Guests will also enjoy refreshments from local businesses like the Shmaltz Brewing Company. All proceeds from the event will go to The Sylvia Center, an organization devoted to kids' nutrition. Tickets start at $55, and can be purchased here.
