McCarren Rink Opens TonightBy Billy Lyons | November 15, 2013 By Billy Lyons | November 15, 2013
While tourists flock to Rockefeller Center, northwest Brooklyn residents now have their very own ice rink to embarrass themselves on. No giant tree to view here, but skaters can ogle a new concession stand by Anella owner Josh Cohen and No 7. Sub chief Josh Kord, who both operate businesses in the area. Hanson Bros. (yes, this pays homage to those bespectacled characters from Paul Newman's hockey comedy Slapshot) will feature a combination of items that'll warm your hands up: hot dogs with a variety of toppings, melts served on pretzel bread and a dessert called "blackout cake." The hot dog will be provided by Greenpoint based butcher Steve's Meat Market, and the collaboration looks to incorporate additional items from local operations like Peter Pan Doughnuts. The rink is currently open from 11 AM to 10 PM seven days a week and is scheduled to operate through January. Additional information can be found on the rink's website.
