New East Village Shop Sparks Biscuit Craze

By all accounts, the new East Village shop Empire Biscuit is a huge hit. And that includes the account on their website, which tells patrons that it's closed today and will reopen tomorrow, after which it will take "about a week" to get up and running 24 hours a day. Word has it they were mobbed during the launch and unable to keep up with the public's appetite for the Southern specialty.

The menu features pretty much any biscuit combo that you can imagine - there are sandwiches like bacon, egg and cheddar, and biscuits with sausage or veggie gravy. You can also load on custom butters (bacon and cracklin' = yum) and jams in flavors like pumpkin pie. If you need a little help deciding on your toppings, there are suggestions like The Fancy Pants, a biscuit with foie gras butter, preserved lemon and cabbage jam. The spot reopens tomorrow (8 AM to 11 PM), more info here.
