Picnic Opens in the East Village
The corner of Second Avenue and 7th Street has an airy new eatery with an all-American theme. At Picnic, chef Nicholas Nostadt (formerly of Berry Park) is turning out pared-down fare including a shareable Roquefort cheeseball platter, a pulled pork sandwich, salads, mussels and turkey-leg confit. For dessert, he's recreated the midwestern favorite puppy chow, cereal with chocolate and powdered sugar. Beer and wine is domestic, naturally. The light-filled space channels an old-timey Americana vibe with antiques and distressed wood. Check it out for dinner seven days a week, with lunch and brunch to follow soon.
