The Modern Is Looking For a New Chef

By James Mulcahy | August 16, 2013 By James Mulcahy  |  August 16, 2013

The Modern has been having a good run, coming off a recent three-star review in the NY Times and cementing its status as one of Midtown's best restaurants, even if it is slightly off the "I can only go to new places" food obsessive's radar. Well, yesterday Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group announced that chef Gabriel Kreuther, who opened the restaurant in 2004, will move on. The parting is more than amicable - the USHG statement offered glowing praise for Kreuther, who is leaving to open his own restaurant in 2014 (sample: "We will miss Gabriel and wish him profound success when he opens his own place.") That means the executive chef position at the restaurant is open, and the search starts now. It's a pretty epic gig, so it surely will be exciting to see which talented chef lands it.
