A former Eleven Madison Park chef is prepping a new restaurant and gourmet market in midtown's Park Central Hotel New York. On track for a December 17 opening, Nathaniel Eckhaus's Park Kitchen plans to serve modern American dishes, so expect witty twists on classics like the PB and J sandwich - Eckhaus's version features braised pork belly and pepper jam. There's also fried chicken and Brooklyn Lager battered fish and chips. Nick Mautone, whose background includes Gotham Bar and Grill, oversees the wine and cocktail list, which has a Big Apple touch to the menu with creations like The Staten Island Frappe - a mix of rum, pineapple juice, and sarsaparilla bitters. Both the market (which sells provisions by NYC food artisans) and restaurant are part of the hotel's extensive renovation and also display a growing trend of hotels looking to keep diners in house with a variety of local New York eats. The Hilton Midtown opened Herb N' Kitchen, a quick service gourmet market featuring a Pat LaFrieda blend burger, earlier this year.
