First Look: The Wild Son Brings Healthy Fare to Meatpacking
Photos by Shannon Sturgis
The gist: The Wild Son is a new, all-day casual restaurant from the owners of The Wayland and Good Night Sonny. Focused on healthy eating, the menu proffers a large offering of grains, greens, veggies and juices — all served in a warm, rustic environment. The restaurant is open during the daytime only until 4PM.
The food: Open for breakfast and lunch, The Wild Son's menu is divided into three main sections: sandwiches, salads and plates. There are plenty of breakfast options (available throughout all service hours), including a Good Morning Sunshine (egg, bacon, avocado, tomato and rosemary aioli on bread) and gluten-free buckwheat pancakes. There are also savory lunch dishes, including the Raw Deal (a salad made of shaved raw cauliflower, peppers, beets, green beans, apples, market greens and green goddess miso dressing) and a vegan cauliflower sandwich with raw walnut pate and pickled onion.
The drinks: Co-owner Jason Mendenhall is known for the cocktails — a skill he's applied to The Wild Son's many non-alcoholic beverages. There's an expansive juice program, nitro cold brew and an iced coconut latte on tap. Even better? Any drink can be carbonated on demand.
The space: Rustic wood finishes line the space including bar stools and table tops and leafy pants and animal artwork adorn the walls.
The details: Open daily from 10 AM–4 PM. 53 Little W 12 St.
