Morimoto, say it ain’t so? We just got word that Masaharu Morimoto’s Tribeca Canvas will be shuttered. The New York Times reports that after less than a year of business (and less-than-stellar reviews), the Asian-inspired comfort restaurant will close and reopen in the same location in four to six weeks as Canvas - complete with a revamped menu.
In related news, Eater reports that La Mar Cebicheria Peruana has closed its doors in the Flatiron after less than two years of business. Could it be because Pete Wells dropped zero stars on the palatial Latin American joint? Whatever the reason, it appears that some big names in the industry have already stopped in to check out the space.
And we've just got the scoop that Il Gattopardo in Midtown West is moving as of September 2 from 33 W. 54th St. to 13-15 W. 54th St. into the old Aquavit space; they've confirmed there would be no down time between the old and the new one operating.
