Where to Brunch on New Year's Day

By Billy Lyons | December 27, 2013 By Billy Lyons  |  December 27, 2013

Finding a deal on brunch may not be as crucial as finding your senses after a night out ringing in the New Year. However, we're a big believer in first impressions, and the first meal of 2014 should set the tone for things to come - or at least offer endless mimosas. Here's a round up of a few places that are breaking in 2014 by helping us forget about that resolution we made to eat healthier just a few hours earlier.

Almond: To ring in 2014, this Flatiron bistro is serving up duck hash and a smoked bluefish platter with cured salmon for those looking for a weekend brunch experience on a Wednesday. The full brunch menu will be available, meaning you'll be able to warm up with a selection of croques with goodies like tomatoes and bacon. A complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary is included for each guest, and service will run from 11:30 AM to 3 PM (212-228-7557).

Boqueria: Both the SoHo and Flatiron locations of this Spanish tapas specialist are hosting their weekend brunch special for $39. Guests can choose from unlimited tapas while enjoying bottomless sangrias, beers or mimosas. Some tapas you might find yourself snacking on repeatedly include croquetas stuffed with ham and cheese and lamb meatballs. The restaurant will also stay open for dinner should you choose to hit the snooze button repeatedly (212-255-2160/212-343-4255).

Briskettown: We're not sure if the smell of smoke makes us feel better, but we're all about trying new things in 2014Over in Williamsburg, Daniel Delaney is hosting an all-day barbecue starting at 11 AM. Fill up on brisket, sausage links and sides like potato salad while nursing your hangover with a cold beer. The party is scheduled to run until 11 PM should you still be in a festive mood from the night before (718-701-8909).

Loreley: If you're looking to save a few bucks right off the bat, this Lower East Side biergarten offers 15% all brunch entrees until 7 PM. The restaurant specializes in German dishes like bacon scrambled eggs with pan-fried schnitzel and is also offering a two-hour unlimited Bloody Mary and mimosa deal for $20. A live band will play throughout the day to help wake us up, though liters of Spaten are likely to liven up our mood too (212-253-7077).

L & W Oyster Co.: Raw bar aficionados can take advantage of ten different kinds of oysters while snacking on complimentary cornbread with honey-chipotle butter. Additional brunch items include apple crepes and biscuits and gravy benedict if you had your fill of shellfish on New Year's Eve. There's also one free Bloody Mary per person included with a brunch order and the restaurant is extending service for late risers to saunter in from 11 AM to 4 PM (212-203-7772).

Moran's: Be productive by building your own brunch at this long time Chelsea American restaurant, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. From 12 PM to 4 PM, guests can create their own plate for $30, with an assembly line of fillings for omelets and egg sandwiches. If you're looking to warm up, there's also the option to grab a bellini by the fireplace and take in a piece New York history as you look forward to the future (212-627-3030).
