Where to Spend Labor Day Weekend in NYC

By Patty Lee | August 28, 2014 By Patty Lee  |  August 28, 2014

Even if you're not jetting off for one last summer getaway, you can still make the most of your Labor Day weekend. Send the season off with a prix-fixe dinner, limited-edition corn dogs or day-long beer party.

The Cannibal: Christian Pappanicholas' Belgian gastropub salutes the unofficial end-of-summer with a Red, White & Blue Cup Party. For $40, chow down on unlimited burgers, hot dogs and quaff Bronx Pale Ale draft on the restaurant's back patio, from noon until the food runs out. (212-686-5480)

M. Wells Steakhouse: Get a sneak peek of the fall menu at Hugue Dufour and Sarah Obraitis' Québécois-accented meat house on Monday. The festivities kick off at 3 PM with a cash bar, $30 plates and music from the restaurant's bartender-DJ. (718-786-9060)

Sotto 13: This West Village trattoria will host a pig roast brunch on Labor Day, featuring an upscale spin on ham-and-eggs and sous chef Patty Vega's Puerto Rican pork plate. (212-647-1001)

Maison Premiere: It's first-come, first-serve for the Labor Day bash at this Williamsburg oyster bar. Beginning at noon, dine on chilled seafood platters and chef's specials (pulled pork sandwiches, Narragansett beer clam bake), while sipping on the den's signature absinthe cocktails. (347-335-0446)

Shake Shack: Skip your usual Shackburger order for the limited-edition corn dog and Peach Pie Oh My concrete, available Friday through Monday at non-ballpark and stadium locations.

Hearth: Pretend you went on a New England road trip with a Sunday lobster boil ($68 per person) at this cozy East Village eatery. Each diner gets a pot full of clams, corn and chorizo — not to mention a whole lobster — along with family-style plates of smoked fish pâté and watermelon salad. The night caps with peach cobbler à la mode. (646-602-1300)

The Gander: Chef Jesse Schenker's Flatiron restaurant goes all-American on Labor Day with a three-course prix-fixe ($35) available from noon to 8 PM. Choose from dishes like shrimp and grits, a Brontasaurus beef rib and dry-aged cheeseburger. (212-229-9500)
