Franklin Flea is popping up outside this summer. The ultrasuccessful vintage, craft and gourmet goods bazaar is moving on from its winter home in the Strawbridge’s building, and on Saturday, July 19, will debut at the yard outside the McCall School at Seventh and Spruce.
Even if you’re not in the market for an antique watch or upcycled couch, it’s worth stopping by to get in on the eats. Here’s who to look for.
Despite its salacious-kitsch name (or perhaps because of it?), this meat purveyor has gained a huge following with a stand at the weekly Tuesday N3RD Street farmer’s market. Hand-smoked pork and chicken sausages will be for sale as made-to-order sandwiches, and jarred pickles, peppers and tomato jams are available to take home.
2) PB & Jams
We’ve mentioned these nut butters before, and if you haven’t yet allowed yourself the guilty pleasure of buying a jar, taking it home, and immediately eating at least a third of it with a spoon, here’s your chance. Try the Simply Almond, Maple Walnut and spicy Hot or Not PB.
Want to make a really crazy sandwich for your summer lunch box? Pick up a few jars of these meat-spiked preserves, which come in flavors like black pepper and chile-garlic. Sandwich idea aside, these are great used as marinades or toppings for meat or mixed into dips.
You’re probably not going to carry lobster rolls home with you, but it won’t hurt to snack on the fresh Maine meat while you’re strolling around. Crab and shrimp rolls will also be on offer.
Another thing you might not take with you...unless you do some careful planning and bring a cooler with an ice block! Recommended, because the pops from this cart are nearly unbeatable, in unique flavors like strawberry rhubarb lemonade, mango chile pepper, lime mint, coconut hibiscus and lemon blueberry buttermilk.
