Sandoval Brothers Coming to Philly With MercaditoBy Danya Henninger

The Insider breaks some big news: Chicago restaurateur Alfredo Sandoval planning to open not one but two concepts in Philadelphia next year. An outpost of high-end Mexican Mercadito will go into the new highrise at 2116 Chestnut Street in Rittenhouse, and a Double A cocktail lounge will be right next to it.
Along with brothers Felipe Sandoval and Patricio Sandoval and partner Ryan Poli, Sandoval currently owns nine different establishments, most in Chicago but also a couple in Miami and New York. He got his start working for his other brother, the ultra-successful restaurateur Richard Sandoval (who has 25 restaurants in cities around the world).
Though we’ve welcomed several NYC imports in the past few years, news of our booming scene is now spreading to the heartland - Rick Bayless is also headed here with a Tortas Frontera coming to University City. Per The Insider, Mercadito won’t be opening until summer 2014, so there’s plenty of time for more Chicagoans to get here first. How about a Philadelphia Alinea, Chef Achatz?
