The Drink: Barrel-Aged Boulevardier at The Fat Ham

Tasting Notes: A Boulevardier is basically a Negroni with bourbon swapped in for gin. We were already big fans of this brown spirit, Campari and sweet vermouth combo, but the barrel-aged version at Kevin Sbraga’s West Philly pork and whiskey haven is even better. After being allowed to mingle for around three months, the bourbon and Campari mixture comes out very rich and silky smooth. Barman Dan Carr adds the vermouth to order - he found that aging the already-fortified wine just produced bitterness - and serves the drink up with an orange twist. It was warming on a cold night, but we’ll be drinking this one well into summer.
