Budino Pops & Sumo Wrestling at Midtown Village FestBy Danya Henninger | October 4, 2013 By Danya Henninger | October 4, 2013
The eighth annual Midtown Village Fall Festival is set for this Sunday, October 6, and it’s bigger and badder than ever before. For the first time, the block party will shut down not only 13th Street but also all of Chestnut from 12th Street to Broad, and more than 120 vendors will be lined up along the sidewalks from noon-7 PM.
Outside Barbuzzo, Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran’s crew will be hawking our favorite dessert of the summer, back for one (80-degree) day only. Pastry chef Stephanie Ponnett has been working furiously to stock supplies of the budino frozen pops that sold out so quickly when offered on weekends in August, but it might be a good idea to swing by early to make sure the team doesn't run out.
Plenty of activities will keep you entertained as you stroll through with eat and drink. At sushi and sake lounge Raw, you can try your hand at sumo wrestling (in big, inflatable suits), and at Finn McCool’s, you can ride a mechanical bull. Kids will have fun at Nest next to Green Eggs Cafe, and adults can do good while having fun by sipping on Free Will Brewing’s Saison de Rose at Bru and McGillin’s Olde Ale House. Organizers expect over 40,000 people to attend, but don’t let the crowds stop you: this party is always a fun one.
