Coming Soon: Good Stuff Eatery, Union Taco Manayunk, Kanella South
We just updated our list of 25 New Restaurants to Try with nine newcomers, and now we have three more openings to look forward to.
Good Stuff Eatery
As we mentioned yesterday, Tuesday, June 24, is the opening date for the Rittenhouse outpost of Spike Mendelhson’s DC-based burger joint. What we didn’t know yesterday was that the first 100 people to walk through the doors after the 11 AM launch will have a chance to win a Celebrity Cruise trip for two with Spike himself. The first 1,000 guests to place an order joint will win freebies like t-shirts, sports tickets and signed cookbooks. Prizes, burgers and toasted marshmallow milkshakes? Be prepared for a long line (108 S. 18th St.).
Nick Farina is duplicating his nine-month-old Girard Avenue taco shop in Manayunk. A mid-July opening is expected for the taqueria, which will have 30 seats and serve lunch and dinner Tuesday-Sunday, plus food through 3 AM, Thursday-Saturday. Look for tacos on housemade tortillas, chorizo cheese fries, made-to-order guacamole and tortas, most under $10. It’s BYO, but tote along tequila and you’ll get fresh juice margaritas mixers for free (4229 Main St.).
This one’s not entirely official, but definitely worth talking about, because Konstantinos Pitsillides' original Cypriot restaurant in Wash West is such a gem. Foobooz spotted the name “Kanella South” on the liquor license transfer posted on the former Village Belle at Front and Fitzwater, and noted that Pitsillides had teased a new spot as far back as March. The sprawling space overlooking the Delaware River (or really, I-95 and then the Delaware) has sat empty for nearly a year, and this would be a fantastic use for it. Here’s hoping the rumor is true (757 S. Front St.)
