Federal Donuts Coming to University City, West PoplarBy Danya Henninger | October 3, 2013 By Danya Henninger | October 3, 2013
This is a government takeover just about anyone can get behind: Federal Donuts is opening two new locations, The Insider confirms. One is going into 3428 Sansom Street in University City on the same block as White Dog Cafe, Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House and Baby Blues BBQ.
The second new shop (which will make four locations overall) is slated for 701 Fairmount, in the currently sleepy neighborhood of West Poplar. FedNuts partner Tom Henneman tells us this store will be slightly larger than the other three. All will serve the same lineup of twice-fried chicken in multiple flavors, “hot fresh” donuts made to order and “fancies,” donuts with creative glazes and flavorings that are made each morning.
Henneman also hinted that stores three and four are probably the last two in Philadelphia (plus the Aramark-run Federal Donuts that was up and running in Citizens Bank Park). Is expansion to other cities next? “Maybe” is the answer we received. To DC, as some have guessed? “We love it there,” Henneman says, “But no concrete plans yet.”
